Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to start learning how to drive?
Although we can help you to get the permit by offering you a free Question & Answer booklet, and Free Drivers manual to help you get your permit, you may not drive until you have a valid NY State Permit.

Can I get my permit at Image Driving School ?
No, only NYS D.M.V. office can issue permits, but we can help get you ready by picking up a free Question & Answer booklet to help you get ready for the written test with sample permit test questions.

At what age can you get a permit?
In New York, you can get a junior permit at 16, but there are restrictions in the 5 boroughs. Also, with a junior permit you can’t get a road test until you have your permit for six months, and your parent or guardian must complete a 50 Hour Certification Form.

Do I have to pay in full if I choose a package?
No, we have the easiest pay plan in New York. Just pay a $80 deposit on the package, and you can “Pay As U Go”. We will keep you up do date when and how much you must pay as you take your lesson and services with us.

What forms of payments do you accept?
We will accept all of the following forms of payment-Cash/Money Order/Visa/MasterCard/Amex/Discover & Personal Check (at least 5 days prior to any lesson or Road Test)

How can I sign up?

You can either contact us by phone, come in to our office, or complete the contact Us form on our web site, so that we will contact you and set up the package and set up you lessons.

Does Image Driving School offer at home pick-up service for lessons?
Yes, we do pick-up and drop-off, as long as your location is within our pick up area. Contact us for details.

How long is the 5-hr Class Certificate valid for?
The 5-hr Class Certificate is valid for only one (1) year. It cannot be automatically renewed, you must re-take the complete class in order to obtain a valid certificate.

How long is the Defensive Driving Course Certificate valid for?
The Defensive Driving Course Certificate is valid for 3 years for the 10% insurance discount. BUT, the class can be re-taken after 18 months for D.M.V. purposes if you get into point trouble.

How long does it take to get a Road Test date?
If you are taking your road test in Brooklyn, currently it can take from 2 to 4 weeks to get a date scheduled. Other sites in the metropolitan area may be slightly sooner or later. But we encourage students to take the test where they are “familiar” with for the best possible outcome.

Do you go to Road Test Sites other than the ones in Brooklyn?
Yes, we technically go to just about every road test site in New York, but the rate for each specific site varies depending on the distance the site is from our school.

Can I practice driving in the Road Test Site?
No, the NY DMV states that your permit in INVALID at the Road Test area, and no one is allowed to practice in the area. (that’s cheating!)

What time do you give in-car lessons?
We currently offer lessons starting as early as 6:00 am, and ending at 7:00 pm on Mondays-Fridays. We also do lessons from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays.

Can I use my own car for driving lessons?
No, for your safety (and ours) we can only use our dual control vehicles for lessons.

Do you have female instructors?
Yes, we currently have female instructors available to teach you if you have a preference.

Refund Policy

If the student having given prior notice of at least 24 hours withdraws from or discontinues a prepaid course of instruction or series of lessons before completion thereof, or from any other service for which prepayment has been made, or if the school is unable or unwilling to complete such prepaid course of instruction, or series of lessons, or to provide such other prepaid service, all payments made by the student to the school shall be refunded except:

An amount equal to the enrollment fee, if any specified in the contract or expressly receipted for, not to exceed the sum of $10 or 10 percent of the total, whichever is greater, specified cost of such course of instruction or series of lessons, and,
The school’s per-lesson tuition change for each lesson already taken by the student which charge shall be determined by dividing the total cost of such course of instruction or series of lessons by the number of lessons included therein.

Lessons are refunded in full, if the student gives more than 24 hours’ notice of cancelling, or a $10 charge is imposed.

Packages are refunded by calculating the “per lesson” or “per item” rate of lessons and or whatever was done and refunding the balance.
